The highly acclaimed 2D action RPG, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, originally developed by Vanillaware for the Wii, is being reintroduced to modern consoles. This celebrated title is receiving a comprehensive update and will be available as Muramasa: Revenant Blades on both Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, scheduled for release in early 2027.

Experience the Definitive Edo-Period Adventure with Enhanced Visuals and Gameplay

A Classic Reimagined: From Wii to Switch

Vanillaware's Muramasa: The Demon Blade, initially launched on the Wii in 2009, is undergoing a significant transformation for its upcoming release. Building on the previous PS Vita remaster, Muramasa Rebirth (2013), this new iteration, titled Muramasa: Revenant Blades, promises a definitive experience for both long-time fans and newcomers.

Overcoming Development Hurdles

Despite previous challenges in bringing the game to contemporary platforms, as noted by Vanillaware's president, Muramasa: Revenant Blades has successfully overcome these hurdles. The new version will incorporate characters and downloadable content from the Vita release, alongside various other enhancements.

Visual and Gameplay Innovations

The remaster is set to elevate the game's acclaimed art style with support for up to 4K resolution, bringing the Edo-period Japan setting to life with breathtaking clarity. Players can also look forward to refined combat mechanics, an expanded arsenal of over 100 forgeable swords, and numerous skill upgrade options. Additionally, the game will introduce new modes and gameplay variations, offering fresh perspectives on the classic adventure.

The Vanillaware Legacy

Vanillaware, renowned for its distinctive artistic vision and engaging gameplay, has recently garnered critical acclaim for titles like 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and Unicorn Overlord. The studio's consistent delivery of high-quality experiences sets a strong precedent for the forthcoming Muramasa: Revenant Blades, affirming its pedigree in the gaming landscape.

Comprehensive Content and Availability

Marvelous' PR confirms that Muramasa: Revenant Blades will feature a brand-new localization, including English voiceovers, enhancing immersion. All six storylines, starring protagonists Momohime and Kisuke, along with Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru, and Rajaki (originally from the Vita version), will be accessible from the outset. Physical editions, including a Standard Edition at €49.99 / £44.99 and a Deluxe Edition at €69.99 / £59.99 (which includes an artbook), will soon be available for pre-order on Nintendo Switch and PS5.
