Prime Video is set to bring a beloved romantic comedy novel to the screen, with a confirmed release date and initial glimpses into the highly anticipated adaptation.

Love in the Lab: A Fictional Romance Comes to Life

Academic Aspirations and Unexpected Romance

The streaming platform, Prime Video, is expanding its romantic genre offerings with the upcoming movie based on Ali Hazelwood's bestseller, The Love Hypothesis. This cinematic rendition is scheduled to launch on the service on September 23rd, promising a captivating story for viewers.

Meet the Protagonists: Olive and Adam

The feature presentation, hitting screens this fall, will showcase Lili Reinhart in the role of Olive Smith, an academically driven yet overwhelmed doctoral candidate. Opposite her, Tom Bateman portrays Dr. Adam Carlsen, a reserved and somewhat irritable young academic. Their narrative delves into the classic romantic comedy trope of a staged romantic relationship.

Initial Visuals and Character Insights

Accompanying the announcement, the first set of images featuring Reinhart and Bateman were released. Additionally, a short video clip circulated on social media, depicting Reinhart's character, Olive, enjoying a custom coffee beverage – a subtle nod to her character's on-campus "dates" with Adam, often involving elaborate caffeinated drinks.

The Premise of a Fictitious Love Affair

The official summary for The Love Hypothesis outlines the journey of Olive, a brilliant Ph.D. student whose academic focus takes an unexpected turn. Upon discovering her best friend Ahn's affection for her crush, Jeremy, Olive impulsively fabricates a relationship with the formidable Professor Adam Carlsen to signal she has moved on.

When Pretense Becomes Reality

What begins as a spontaneous act of friendship evolves into a pretend relationship governed by mutually agreed-upon terms and boundaries. As the lines between their performance and genuine feelings begin to blur, Olive finds herself confronting a challenging new hypothesis: whether love is genuinely worth the emotional risks involved.

Ensemble Cast and Creative Team

The film's cast also includes Jaboukie Young-White and Arty Froushan, joining Reinhart, Bateman, Rachel Marsh, and Nicholas Duvernay. Claire Scanlon directs the movie, working from a screenplay penned by Sarah Rothschild.

Highlighting at Obsessed Fest

Further anticipation for The Love Hypothesis will be built during Prime Video's fan-centric event, Obsessed Fest, later this month, where the film is expected to receive special attention. Following this, additional promotional images from The Love Hypothesis have been made public
