A new dystopian science fiction movie is now in development, drawing its inspiration from Emerson, Lake & Palmer's extensive progressive rock masterpiece, "Karn Evil 9." This cinematic endeavor has secured both its screenwriter and director, marking a significant step forward in its production.

Isaac Ezban, acclaimed for his previous works including "The Incident" and "Párvulos," is slated to helm the film. The screenplay will be crafted by Tim Hedrick, recognized for his contributions to "Avatar: The Last Airbender." The narrative centers on Zak, a gifted yet troubled musical prodigy. When he accepts an invitation to perform at a major music festival, which is simultaneously broadcast within the world's most popular video game, he makes a startling discovery. The game's enigmatic creator may be using him to promote a revolutionary, and potentially terrifying, new technology. As the plot unfolds, Zak begins to suspect that this technology could hold immense benefits for humanity, leading him to be relentlessly pursued by relentless, anti-technology mercenaries.

This film is being brought to fruition by Radar Pictures, with the full cooperation of Emerson, Lake & Palmer and their management team. Michael Napoliello and Maria Frisk are attached as producers, alongside Ted Field representing Radar. Original ELP member Carl Palmer, Bruce Pilato, and Stewart Young will serve as executive producers. Ezban expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that it's a dream come true to direct such an original and epic science fiction piece that addresses a pertinent subject through a fresh perspective. He hinted at a storyline where artificial intelligence could be a powerful ally, with the antagonists presenting unexpected challenges. Ezban lauded Hedrick's script as deeply human, distinctive, contemporary, unpredictable, captivating, and profoundly moving. Hedrick shared his long-standing fascination with the song, recalling its iconic H.R. Giger album cover. He noted that "Karn Evil 9" predates cinematic classics like "The Matrix" and "The Terminator" but foresees themes present in both, as well as the current era of technological upheaval. He eagerly anticipates exploring this intricate world.

The adaptation of "Karn Evil 9" into a feature film represents a fascinating blend of music and cinema, promising to deliver a thought-provoking narrative that explores the complex relationship between humanity and technological advancement. This project reminds us that art, in its various forms, can provide powerful commentaries on our present and future, inspiring dialogue and reflection on the paths we choose to take. The exploration of a world where AI could be our greatest asset, and the nature of antagonists is redefined, offers a positive message about seeking understanding and progress even amidst potential threats.
